Fantastic Sewing MachineI have not sewn since 8th grade and 36 yrs later I could easily recall what I learned on this sewing machine. I followed the directions and I was quickly sewing my pillows with ease. The machine is a quality and durable machine and sews on duck fabric and burlap with ease! I use this machine to sew pillows for my business.

Really good machineI’ve had this machine for a month and a half and it is awesome! I bought it to make my son a costume and it has worked out really good. I bought some heavy duty needles to sew up some jeans but I haven’t tried it out yet, I’m sure it’ll work. I don’t really have any complaints but if I were to have to complain about something it would be the stitching. I wish there was something that showed what all the stitching looked like but I just grabbed some scraps and stitched all the patterns for a layout.

Excellent Machine and purchaseThe purchase process was unimaginably simple, my new sewing machine showed up two days after my order was placed. I recommend this machine as it is simple to use, durable, and free of the unnecessary complexities that other machines have. I have been using it to see together canvas and faux fur for Carnival Punks and the machine makes it a breeze even with the thickness of materials used.

Good machine for multiple layers.Ready to use right out of the box.
It is very smooth. I am using it to hem quilts, (2 layers of cloth one layer of polyester fill.) I am also using a heavier upholstery thread. The cloth must be laying smooth to advance for each stich. It could use a more aggressive advance to insure that each stitch is full length.

Well known brand!Singer fortunately has some great YouTube tutorials for their machines, I had to watch the one for the 44S to learn how to use it. I’m a beginner, and everything I learn so far was from the Singer YouTube channel.

Singer heavy duty 44s refurbishedIt works pretty well. My only issue is I was making a beanie for my nephew and I wanted to add ears but I guess that was too much for the machine. So if you want a real heavy duty machine that’s going to go through a lot of layers of cloth i don’t think this one is it. But if you want to sew regular clothes like dresses, Shirts, pants etc. this should be more than fine.

Good machine but seller added non OEM foot pedalThe shipping was faster than estimated, which was helpful even though I was not available to use it for a couple of weeks. I was able to set up the bobbin and thread the machine easily, but could not get the needle threader to do its job, it was faster for me to thread it manually. The biggest concern is the foot pedal, which was not OEM and was in bad condition, there was dirt and sand in the top, and the bottom was missing the plastic feet that keep it in place, which causes it to scratch my floor. I would like to know how to get an OEM foot pedal.

Factory Refurbished NOT RECOMMENDEDIf you purchase one of the factory refurbished Singer machines don’t plan on it having all the accessories that it came with when new. The one I received did not. The one I received also had a bed extension/storage compartment from a different model machine and it does not fit correctly and has sharp edges on the front and back of the machine. These don’t have any kind of warranty to deal with issues like this. So it is buyer beware and I don’t recommend the factory refurbished Singer machines. You will be sorry of your purchase.

NOT REFURBISHEDThis refurbished Singer 44S was purchased to be shipped to a friend in another state. It arrived quickly in two days…but without needed accessories for it to even sew!
It’s online description did not state what accessories it included, but the photos on the left side of the webpage show a machine with a buttonhole foot, an all purpose/zig zag foot and the large thread spool cap. It arrived without any of those and also did not have its small spool cap, nor the button sewing on foot, and not the zipper foot either. If you know about sewing machines, you know all those are needed or the machine can’t sew.
Other small items were also missing, such as a pack of needles and a lint brush, etc. IMHO those are of little concern.
The missing accesories could be a one off mistake, but the machine does not even seem refurbished!
Even though cosmetically OK, the machine has a straight stitch foot on it and the stitch width was set as wide as it could be set. The tension dial was set to 7. Even a sewist would not set up a machine that way, let alone a tech refurbishing a sewing machine. No way.
Strangely, the 44S accessory package does not even have a straight stitch foot as part of its package, so a tech refurbishing
the sewing machine would not have left that on there instead of putting on a general purpose/zig zag foot it’s supposed to have on it.
This is an AS IS machine and not a refurbished one. My friend can’t test sew with it to know if it even sews well without the needed accessories. The word accessories sound like these items are superfluous, but they are actually imperative to sewing with the machine.
It could have exchanged with this machine picked up by FedEx and another one sent…but the question to online customer service was if this refurbished machine sold and shipped by Walmart is supposed to include accessories or not…since it’s not verbally described in its webpage online. The very nice customer service reps could not assure that the machine is to have accessories or not. I’ve bought several refurbished sewing machines in years past and they were always well set up with everything in their accessories package as offered when new…but that was well explained in their webpages.
Online customer gave me the address and phone number to the distribution center and I will certainly contact them tomorrow.
Thank you for reading this long review. Hope it helps someone else from an unpleasant surprise.
